“And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:27-28)
From studying the life of Christ, we realize the humility required to be a true disciple. If Jesus came to serve humanity then our status is predetermined. Have we accepted our spiritual assignment to serve others or do we share the mindset of the two sons of Zebedee who approached Jesus with their mother boldly asking to sit on the left and right side of Jesus’ throne?
Humility is not an innate characteristic. The human heart is naturally prideful, always seeking status and recognition. Yet, humility is a trait that is required of every follower who desires to receive the Crown of Life. “For many are called but few are chosen.”
“Humble me, O Lord, that I may do your will.”
