“For you are God, my only Safe Haven. Why have you tossed me aside? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies?” Psalm 43:2 NLT
If you are familiar with the Book of Psalms, then you are aware that when King David was experiencing God’s greatest blessings, he was usually battling a myriad of displaced emotions. Although God had proven His love and adoration for David through countless victories, he let people, places, and situations control his mindset.
In Psalm 42, David accuses God of “tossing him aside and allowing him to wander around in grief.” When I read this verse, I thought really King David, how could you forget so easily?
Our emotions can easily escalate us into delusional thoughts which lead to depression and despair. God was very generous in giving us the ability to have feelings and express love, happiness, sadness, controlled anger, and fear (for the purpose of keeping us physically safe). It is only when we begin to lose control over our emotions that we are overwhelmed, and feel forgotten or tossed aside.
The circumstances of life can place us on a road that God never intended for us to travel on. Gods unfailing love is the only consistent and never changing aspect in our lives. Never forget that God sacrificed His only Son, Jesus to die for our sins. Is there a greater love?
Become aware of your thoughts! Immediately cease and desist through recognition, shutting down the wayward mindset, and beginning a prayer vigil.
Prayer is the key to victory. We must pray without ceasing. When seeking release from emotional strongholds, we must not cut corners by offering speedy and ineffectual words. This is the time that we need to expose ourselves with honesty and use our emotions to literally cry out to God.
It took many years and sleepless nights for me to realize that God was waiting for me to approach Him. At the time, I was not studying the Word of God and my prayers were hasty. Had I studied the Book of Psalms, I would have realized that God had provided the story of David’s emotional highs and lows, and I was experiencing the same tumultuous feelings of trust and mistrust in my life.
Our victory is available only with God’s Divine Intervention. When we stay connected through prayer and studying of God’s Word, we are reassured again and again that it is impossible to be forgotten by our Most Loving God, our Creator, our El Shaddai, and our Jehovah-Jireh. God is our Heavenly Father and His love overshadows all feelings of being forgotten.
Prayer for today: Dear God, Right now, I am not feeling my best. I am weakened from allowing circumstances to overshadow your love for me. I realize that it is impossible for you to forget who I am. I desperately need you. I need the reassurance that you will never leave me or forsake me. Please help me and give me your peace. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen!
