“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
There is a story of a 17-year-old girl whose father had taught her to drive. He decided that she was ready to increase her experience by driving on the highway. As she entered the rural highway, all went well for a couple of miles until they looked ahead and saw dark clouds with torrential rains. At this point, the young girl began to doubt her driving skills, “Father, I should pull over so that you drive.” to which he replied, “Our purpose was to increase your driving skills, remain focused and keep driving. I am here.”
As they entered the storm, she began to fear what was ahead, “Father, I am afraid.” He reassured her that she had the skills to continue through the storm and to keep driving as if he was not in the car. The minutes seemed like hours as the rain beat ferociously on the vehicle. Lightning danced through the clouds, and the loud claps of thunder made her tremble with fear, but she heard her Father’s voice, “Keep driving.”
As they slowly drove through the storm, many vehicles were parked on the shoulder of the road to avoid the downpour. She felt relieved that now her father would tell her to stop and wait until the storm was over. “Father, should I pull over?” The confidence in her father’s voice was also comforting, “Do not become distracted by the parked cars, maintain your safety by looking ahead, you are doing very well.” As they continued to travel, the sun begins to peek through the clouds, and the rain slowed to a drizzle. Finally, she heard her Father’s voice instructing her to pull over so that he could drive. “Father, I do not understand, why did you want me to drive through the storm?” “Because my daughter, I needed you to rely on me for guidance to make it through the storm. Faith requires many tests, and for that reason you must endure the struggle. Yes, you knew that I was here, but you made it through the storm because you trusted and obeyed my instructions as you listened to my voice.”
Many of us are experiencing severe storms; illnesses, loss of income, isolation, dysfunctional families, and disappointment from shattered dreams. Even so, God has promised to safely guide us through every storm if we faithfully trust and believe in Him. Can you hear His voice? Taking the time to pray, not once or twice, but whispering a prayer throughout the day and night provides the reassurance that “God is here.”
We were never promised that our lives would be comfortable, we are promised that God will bring us safely through. Praying for our safety, for wisdom, and the strength to stay on the Path of Righteousness. Whatever you do, keep your focus on Jesus Christ!
The LORD Himself goes before you; He will be with you. He will never leave you or forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. Isaiah 43:2
