A Heart Overflowing With Agape Love

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit [through factional motives, or strife], but with [an attitude of] humility [being neither arrogant nor self-righteous], regard others as more important than yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3, Amplified Bible).

True Agape Love is the heart and spirit of religion. We know that our heart is filled with God’s Love when we love and pray for others, despite the way they treat us.

God is Love! God Gives Us The Characteristics of Agape Love

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” (1 Corinthians 13: 4-7, NIV).

“But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.” (1 Peter 4:7).

Although our hearts are filled with God’s love, the Apostle James tells us to always pray for wisdom.

Our initial morning prayer should include asking God to give us spiritual wisdom. Without wisdom, it is impossible to discern life’s dilemmas through spiritual eyes, resulting in the inappropriate use of our emotions.

2 Corinthians 5:14: “The love of Christ constrains us…” God’s Love acts as a powerful, overwhelming force that directs a believer’s responses.”

Satan is busy, always looking for ways to disturb our peace of mind. But even when offended, we remain silent. Our first response to any given situation is to whisper a prayer for Divine Strength and Guidance.

Praying redirects our carnal mind to the heavenly realm. Praying prevents us from committing the grievous sin of bringing dishonor to God’s Holy Name and His Loving Character.

We may see ourselves as good people, but it takes the right situation to reveal the true spiritual condition of our heart and character. We are not who we think we are!

God reveals that every human heart is filled with the corruption of sin: “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9).

Harboring Past Grievances and Unforgiveness

For those who do not study the Bible, Satan easily manipulates their minds to accept his false teachings. The word dislike is not found in the Holy Scriptures. Jesus tells us, either we love or hate others.

We may say, “But you have no idea the trauma, pain, and mistreatment this individual has inflicted on me.” Pray for yourself and for those who mistreat others, because they are eternally lost.

If the person [or people] who harmed you is deceased, then pray a prayer of repentance for the hatred in your heart; and verbally express to Jesus that you forgive the person [people] who harmed you.

“‘Come out from them and be separate,’ says the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 6:17, NIV).

Because Christ created us and loves us, we reveal our love for Christ by loving ourselves. Consequently, we do not stay in abusive, toxic, and demeaning relationships and marriages.

“But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 7:15, NIV).

Unforgiveness produces a dark cloud of sin into our minds, gives us an impure heart, prevents the Holy Spirit from residing within, and we lose our inheritance of receiving the Crown of Eternal Life.

“Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.” (1 John 4:20, NIV).

Truthfully, without possessing a heart filled with Agape Love, we are in the same spiritual predicament as unbelievers. Are we willing to be lost along with the person/people who mistreated us?

Because God is Omniscient, He knows our entire lifespan and every negative, hurtful situation, we will experience. Yet, there are two promises that God is still fulfilling:

“He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3).
“Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:18-19).

Healing is a spiritual journey that requires our active participation: We must love God, love others, including our enemies, quickly forgive, and let go of our past.

The Evolution of the Present Loveless State of Christianity

Ritualistic Loveless Religion: “The Pharisees kept the Sabbath, went to church, ate clean foods, gave their tithe and offerings, but they still crucified Jesus.”

Jesus’ Last Days Prophecy: Matthew 24:12

“And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many will wax cold.” Jesus told His disciples that in the Last Days [which is right now], many Believer’s hearts would be void of love.

King Solomon tells us that there is nothing new under the Sun; eventually, the negative aspects of history always repeats itself.

“In 2026, We are living in a time when human beings in this world and in the church are becoming cold, unfeeling, and insensitive. Christian believers are quietly nurturing the selfishness in their heart, which has overpowered God’s Love. We simply do not care about our brothers and sisters in Christ.” Pastor Dr. W. Phipps

Reflection: What is the present condition of your heart? Be honest in your self-evaluation! “Would not God discover this? For He knows the secrets of the heart.” (Psalm 44:21, ESV).

Because Jesus could read their hearts, He knew that His twelve disciples did not love each other. Jesus’ Command to His disciples is still valid for His followers today:

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” (John 13:34).

God’s Agape Love Keeps Us On The Narrow Path

“If we practice self-denial, and manifest kindness, courtesy, and Christian sympathy, [God’s] love will be kept warm in the heart.”

When our hearts are filled with God’s Love, we are not easily annoyed. Yes, the line at the store is filled with anxious, angry, complaining people, yet, we have a calm spirit, because our hearts are filled with Jesus’ Love and Peace.

“Agape Love can endure evil and provocation, without being filled with resentment and revenge. God’s Love gives us power over anger, a quiet spirit, and persevering patience” [The Fruit of the Spirit – Galatians 5:22-23].

Without retaliation, we can overlook a stranger’s rude words, and have an unbothered mind when a resounding car horn is used to curse us.

“For the love of Christ controls and compels us, because we have concluded this, that One died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all, so that all those who live would no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and was raised for their sake.” (2 Corinthians 5:14-15, Amplified Bible).

“True love will give us an esteem of our brethren, and raise our value for them; and this will limit our esteem of ourselves, and prevent the [unrighteousness] of self-conceit and arrogance.”

God’s Agape Love Is Transforming

“God’s Love corrects a sharpness of temper, sweetens and softens the mind, It can endure evil, injury, and provocation, without being filled with resentment, indignation, or revenge.”

God’s Love makes the mind steadfast, gives us power over our angry passions, and furnishes it with a persevering patience…”

Our time on this Earth is slipping fast into eternity. We must kneel before the Throne of Grace, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal any hidden sins in our heart.

“We need to understand the Biblical teaching that we were created to sense and feel the presence of God.”

“Our heart can only stay saturated with God’s Love by the continual and consistent sense of God’s Presence in our life.”

“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:8). In these Last Days, we desperately need to be in the presence of God. Evaluate and Rearrange your daily schedule, so you can have personal worship at least twice a day.

Consistent worship invites the Holy Spirit to spiritually transform our mind, character, and personality into the likeness of Christ’s Righteous Character, and to permeate our hearts with Agape Love.

“I will never leave you or forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5). With God’s Love overflowing in our hearts, even when the tests and trials come, we remain faithful, never losing hope, because we believe in Jesus’ Abiding Love and His Promises.

Lord God, we come to You in total surrender, seeking to be in Your Holy Presence. We ask You to cleanse our hearts from all unrighteousness, and to fill us with Your Agape Love. Lord, teach us how to love You and to love others. We also ask for wisdom, discernment, and the strength to persevere in our spiritual journey. In faith we ask this prayer in the Loving and Righteous Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Praying For Others Also Blesses Us

“Carry one another’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the requirements of the law of Christ [that is, the law of Christian love].” (Galatians 6:2, Amplified Bible).

This morning I watched a video short of a sermon regarding believers who are discouraged and overwhelmed from life’s neverending challenges.

The pastor asked several questions and I responded, Yes, to all of the questions. But as I meditated on my current life, I could not identify the reason for my fluctuating emotions.

“He reveals deep and hidden things…” (Daniel 2:22). I prayed for an answer and within a couple of minutes, I had my answer.

From having daily worship, I recognize how the Holy Spirit usually speaks to me, through my thoughts. Jesus always meets us where we are in our spiritual walk with Him by giving us answers that we can understand.

I was reminded of a young man on Instagram who has been blessed with a powerful spiritual gift of Prayer. Yes, if you hear his genuine prayers of love, praise, and appreciation for God, it makes you question your love and loyalty to God.

But after praising God for His goodness, the Prayer Warrior changes his focus from God to himself; the rest of his prayers are always self-directed; Not once in his countless reels does he pray for his family and friends, or other believers.

The Holy Spirit revealed to me that my prayers are also Me-Focused. As I reflected on the content of my prayers, I realized 95% of my prayers are about me.

Although I pray for my family and other believers, my words are too generic. For example, “Lord, I ask you to bless my family and the global family of believers with Your peace, and keep them safe.”

Reflection: Is it possible that you are also praying “Me-focused” prayers?

We face a daily battle against the desires of our innately selfish hearts. And we live in an atmosphere that is overwhelmed by worldviews always promoting self-gratification.

Our prayers reflect the true condition of our hearts. If we are praying for material possessions, the acquisition of wealth, or relationships, although our prayers are genuine, we are not praying according to God’s Will.

Jesus told us to “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.” (Matthew 6:33, NLT).

Our spiritual needs are a priority: We should ask for a pure heart, a closer relationship with Christ, and for our character to reflect the Fruit of the Spirit [Galatians 5:22-24].

My favorite Christian writer states:

“Praying only for oneself leads to spiritual stagnation and misses the purpose of prayer, which is to bring us into harmony with God, not just to change circumstances. True prayer should include intercession for others; when we pray only for ourselves, we are likely to…find our prayers unanswered.”

The Apostle Paul gives us examples of how we should pray Intercessory Prayers for other believers: Colossians 1:9-12, NIV:

“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way…”

“bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.” [Amen].

The apostle Paul’s prayer is a spiritual template, which teaches us how to pray with genuine concern, addressing the specific needs of other believers. When we accept Christ, we become part of the Family of God.

Religious Liberty Is one of our greatest blessings that many believers do not have.

Yes, we have the freedom to ask God to supply our needs, yet, we are to esteem others above ourselves, especially those who are suffering for Christ.

Philippians 2:3-4 (NIV): “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”

To remain anchored in our relationship with Jesus Christ, our hearts must overflow with Jesus’ Love and Compassion, especially for our brothers and sisters in the Family of God.

Praying for others touches God’s heart. It is the Holy Spirit who gives comfort and courage to those who are suffering. Every day, we should pray asking for all believers to be strengthened by the power of Jesus Christ.

To remain courageous when you are being persecuted requires a level of faith that many of us know nothing about.

According to statistics there are approximately 2.6 billion Christians, can you imagine if all of us started praying for the power of God to intervene for our persecuted brothers and sisters?

In Acts chapter 2, the day of Pentecost proves the prayers of the righteous moves God to act and perform miracles that we cannot imagine.

Certainly, we should also pray for unbelievers, our country’s leaders, those who are oppressed, unhoused, impoverished, and even Jesus commands us to pray for our enemies.

What can we expect from praying for others?

“Consistent Intercessory Prayer: Strengthens Our Own Faith; Encourages Perseverance; Cultivates Empathy; and Strengthens Our Own Faith:”

“Intercessory prayer connects humanity to God’s throne, aligns us with Christ’s work of Intercession, and ensures our own hearts become more fervent, earnest, and aligned with Divine Grace.”

Our willingness to intercede for others invites Christ to empower us with His Righteous attributes of unconditional love, humility, and compassion.

Praying for others also enables us to develop kindness and the willingness to extend mercy to others even when they are wrong.

Who would think that praying Intercessory prayers would have such a profound impact on our spiritual awareness, growth, and transformation?

In John Chapter 17, Jesus Prayed for All Future Believers: “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word, that they may all be one, just as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You have sent Me.”

“Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, may be with Me where I am, to see my glory that you have given Me because You loved Me before the foundation of the world.”

“O righteous Father, even though the world does not know You, I know You, and these know that you have sent Me. I made known to them Your Name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which You have loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” (John 17:20-21, 24-26, ESV). [Amen].

Lord God, we thank You for teaching us that our love and prayers must extend beyond our family and friends. We ask forgiveness for praying too many self-directed prayers. Lord, help us to see others through spiritual eyes. We pray for our unbelieving family and friends that they will accept your free gift of Salvation. We know that we are living in the Last Days and many Christians are suffering persecution and losing their lives because they have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. Lord, in faith, we ask You to send Your Holy Spirit to comfort and strengthen our brothers and sisters, who are boldly proclaiming their love for You, despite the outcome. At this time, we intercede for all of our Brothers and Sisters in Christ, praying for their hearts to be filled with love and compassion for one another. In Ezekiel 36, you promised to change our stony hearts into hearts of flesh filled with Your Agape Love. God, we ask You to give us pure hearts filled with faith, abundant love, and compassion. In faith and with humility, we ask and thank You for answering our Intercessory prayer that we ask in Jesus’ Loving and Righteous Name, Amen.

“Dear Friend…I pray that all may go well with you”

In 2017, I was in West Virginia and attended prayer meeting with my cousin. Her pastor told us the story of a young man, who received a substantial prison sentence, and after serving many years, he was given a reprieve, which gave him his freedom. Yet, with fear, he stated, “I don’t want freedom, I want to serve the rest of my sentence.”

Although this story sounds unbelievable, sadly this scenario of the prisoner who refused freedom is also our mindset when we choose to stay in marriages, family relationships, and associate with people who do not have the love of God in their hearts, as evidenced by their continuous disrespect and abusive mistreatment of others.

“Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment And the second is like it:bYou shall love your neighbor as yourself.'” (Matthew 22:37-39).

“We love Him because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19).

God is Love! Jesus created us from love and gifted us with the ability to love and honor God, and to love and respect others. We were also created to receive Jesus’ spiritual gifts of joy, peace, and happiness.

1 John 3 is the letter the Apostle Paul sent to Gaius, his friend; “‘…as your soul prospers’ indicates that spiritual health (right thinking, choices, and relationship with God) is the foundation for [our] overall well-being.”

To love God is to love ourselves!

For us to enjoy God’s love, and optimal mental, emotional, physical, and most importantly spiritual health and prosperity, we cannot reject God’s Agape Love, replacing it with the abusive behaviors from those who reject God’s love and His commandment to love others.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3). Jesus died to give us freedom, not only from sin, but also to deliver and heal us from mental despair and emotional wounds.

Remaining in abusive situations, prevents us from loving Christ as He deserves, and blocks our spiritual growth and the transformation of our character required to receive Eternal Life.

“When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, ‘Do you want to be made well?'” (John 5:6).

Jesus also asks us, “Do you want to be made well?”

If our answer is yes, then we use our faith, and through His love, the Holy Spirit empowers us with the courage to leave every demonic situation that is a roadblock to embracing Jesus’ Abiding Love and His gift of Spiritual Peace. Yes and Amen!

Lord God, we thank You for Your Amazing Love and creating us with the ability to love. We live in a world permeated with sin and compromised values that allow us to tolerate the abusive mistreatment of others, who You created in Your image. Lord, we pray, and ask You to strengthen and empower Your sons and daughters to take a leap of faith and to embrace the freedom of healing that only You can offer us. In faith, we ask this prayer of deliverance and healing in the Powerful Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
