For a Purpose

Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause. Isaiah 1:17

Although I had a timid personality as a young girl, I possessed the courage to stand up and speak out against social injustice. I was sure that seeing the ravages from the looting and burnt remains of the 1967 Newark, New Jersey riots influenced my desire to become involved in the fight against wrongdoing. It was only today that I realized my motivation to stand up and speak out was biblically supported. Imagine my surprise when I read Isaiah 1:17? God defines our responsibility to become an active participant in the battle against injustice and oppression. We are required to assist those who are unable to defend themselves against cruel and unjust treatment.

But there has to be more to the onset of intent purpose at such a young age. As I reflect on my childhood activities, they were atypical, my focus was on seeking knowledge and developing creativity. By the age of 13, I had read hundreds of books, studied the Bible, and could formulate arts and crafts projects that were well beyond my chronological age. Somehow I knew that I had been called to live a purpose-driven life. To be sure that I had the correct perception of my childhood, the other day, I spoke to my Mother, who verified that my historical facts were accurate.

Each of us has been gifted with unique qualities. The question is, “How are you fulfilling your purpose in life?” As I matured, I developed alternate plans which were outside of the will of God. Because we have been given free will of choice, I was able to complete most of my ideas, but they always resulted in a dead-end. Eventually, I became weary of hitting the wall of limitations and prayed for God to order my steps according to His will.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11. I am a Believer because God has forgiven my willful disobedience and has enabled me to live with purpose as long as I agree to place my life in His hands. I seek Divine Intervention because I recognize that I am the hindrance to my blessings. I have grown tired of making mistakes and suffering the consequences.

At any stage in life, God can use us for His greater good to humanity. Yes, we share the common purpose of standing against injustice and helping those who are social outcasts and economically disadvantaged. Even so, as we differ, so do our spiritual gifts and innate talents. It is not enough to verbalize that the situations are terrible, we have been given the duty to alleviate suffering, which is not an option when you serve God.

“If you keep quiet at a time like this, help will come from heaven to the Jews, and they will be saved, but you will die, and your father’s family will come to an end. Yet who knows–maybe it was for a time like this that you were made queen!” Esther 4:14

In reading the Book of Esther, God used an orphan girl who became a Queen and saved a Nation. Approaching the King without an invitation would lead to her immediate execution; however, with prayer and fasting, God gave the young Queen wisdom, and God’s plan was brought into fruition to save the Israelite nation.

Living a life without making major mistakes is only possible with God who cannot make mistakes. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, civil unrest, heinous actions, crimes, and political dissension, you and I have been placed in the right place at the right time. Using our spiritual gifts and talents, along with spreading the message of Salvation, is our purpose. Now is the time for all Believers to proclaim that better days are coming, and they will last forever in a New Heaven and New Earth.

Bible Reading: The Book of Esther 1-8

God, we ask you to reveal our purpose and to give us direction to minister to the oppressed and who are unable to provide for themselves. We pray for the boldness to stand up and speak out against the injustices that permeate our world. Forgive us for ignoring those who are suffering. Thank you for hearing and answering our prayer that we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

The Big Reveal

Two days ago, a former power couple, the Smiths, sat at the Red Table and disclosed private information as to their solution “to shut people up.” Historically, the Smiths have exhibited attention-seeking behaviors throughout their marriage, so the big reveal of their indiscretions comes as no surprise. With all the political turmoil and the devastation of the sweeping COVID-19 saturating the media, the Smiths did what they do best, and that was to pull off one of the best PR strategic plans to “tell as much as we can without damaging our reputations.”

And with almost 500,000 views, they hit the mark, pulling in their target audience like bees to flowers. One can only imagine the congratulatory hugs and laughter they gave one another behind closed doors. The Smiths are no ordinary couple, they have brilliant minds that have propelled them to prominence among their peers. Unfortunately, at a time (ages 48 and 51), when their lives should reflect integrity, honor, and wisdom, the Smiths display selfishness by placing themselves, once again, in the spotlight. They are a perfect example of people who are in love with themselves. What about their children and extended families who they never considered while developing the plot for attention? Yes, they were quite successful with their venture, the Smiths were featured on Good Morning America, and propelled youtube hits to an all-time high.

The trending of “Transparency” has permeated our society, promoting total disregard for the dignity and respect for ourselves and cruelty toward others. Boundaries and hearts have been broken as individuals use their most potent weapon, the tongue, to reveal intimate secrets and to annihilate one another with vicious words. Speaking thoughtless words are not a modern concept or practice. In the book of Psalms, King David describes the individuals that surrounded him in the royal court, My soul is among the lions; I lie down with ravenous beasts whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords. Psalm 57:4

The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 12:18.

The Big Reveal: Our words reveal our thoughts, which reveal our real character.

People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. James 3:7. God tells us the words that bring pain and suffering to ourselves, and others are a result of evil, and that evil is within each of us. “As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous— not even one.” Romans 3:10. Yes, it is you, it is me, it is all of us who possess the curse of sin within our hearts. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? Jeremiah 17:9

With the tongue, we praise our Lord and Father, and with it, we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. James 3:9. If you find yourself in this predicament that an out-of-control tongue is your greatest enemy, then stop, and ask for God’s help. Okay, so you may not be included in the group of individuals who rant. Perhaps, you are trained and can control verbalizing your thoughts; yet, you secretly harbor anger and hatred against others or yourself. Even with variables, all of us are equally in the same predicament: Human beings possess defective characters. The battle is from within. Every day we fight against the diabolical effects of sin.

The Biggest Reveal: We are unable to change our character without Divine Intervention. Thankfully, God’s love, grace, and mercy have provided an alternate path for us. Through the sacrificial death of His perfect Son, Jesus Christ, we have been redeemed from the sins of evil.

The Bible openly reveals the character of God and His expectation of those who serve Him. The Creator of humanity is fully aware that we are unable to fight the battle of sin alone. God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. Psalm 46:1. We require God’s help every moment of every day. Without Him, it is not possible to think, speak, or live holy and righteous lives.

This is our lifelong task to align our character with God’s expectation: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law… Galatians 5:22-23. When we humble ourselves and seek God’s help, the Holy Spirit enables us to control ungodly thoughts. The wounding thoughts that reveal themselves as inflammatory words of fire, which cause us to sin against God, ourselves, and others, can be eradicated.

Begin your character overhaul today by praying for God’s help. I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers! Isaiah 65:24

Divine Intervention + Human Effort = Victory

I can (and I will) do all things through Christ who gives me strength! Philippians 4:13

Bible Reading: James 3

God, we admit that we have a severe problem with our character. We have developed the skill of using our words to wound ourselves and others. Our thoughts are out of sync with your standards for righteousness. We pray for forgiveness and ask for your strength to change and possess the Fruit of the Spirit. Thank you for hearing and answering this prayer that we ask this prayer in the Worthy name of Jesus. Amen.

The Tsunami of Disbelief

“Disbelief is an inability to believe that something is the case. Unbelief is an absence (or rejection) of belief, an unwillingness to believe. … “Unbelief” means ‘lack of faith’; “disbelief” means ‘the feeling of not being able to believe that something is true or has happened.” http://www.quora.com

Name a few things that you do not believe in or that even exist. Our thoughts, behaviors, and actions, which reflect our overall lifestyle, openly display our Disbelief. If you have never taken the time to think about the impact of not believing the reality of a situation, please know that “Disbelief is Dangerous!”

The Cases of the Coronavirus in the United States is well over 3 million and multiplying daily. We have lived in two of the states, Florida and Texas that have the highest number of COVID-19 cases. The Fun in the Sun lifestyle is very addicting and can easily cause one to compromise, even during a pandemic. So, when Disneyworld recently opened, it was not a surprise. Would the theme park open if there was not a demand? visitflorida.com

Walt Disney World hotels opened on June 22, 2020, in anticipation of it’s 2020 Disney World season. disneytouristblog.com. Florida has also imposed a 14-day quarantine for out-of-state visitors coming in from hotspot states. How is this actually being enforced? I can promise that visiting Florida is a most enjoyable experience. The beaches and the variety of ethnic foods are unequaled to any other state in the USA. Is now the right time?

Have you thought about the packed airplanes amidst this terrible viral invasion? With most corporations enacting virtual conferencing and instituting work from home measures, the majority of people who are traveling are doing so because of pleasure trips. Vacations are still on the rise.

I have not lost my objectivity, nor do I recommend sheltering at home for the remainder of one’s life. However, we must use sound reasoning and common sense to develop guidelines to stay safe and develop strategies for living a “New Normal” lifestyle. The proof that we have failed to do our part can be found on the cdc.gov websiteWe cannot justify, rationalize, or blame anyone else for the out-of-control and the disproportionate number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in the United States.

What is the root of the problem? Disbelief demolishes a disciplined mindset. Emotions are the catalyst for the pursuit of pleasurable desires. The “Follow your heart because Love is blind” and “You only live once!” concepts have caused many heartaches. Only if life were that simple, it would provide a breath of fresh air that we could use right now. If we let our desires lead our decisions, our lives quickly spin out of control.

The Disbelief regarding the danger of the Coronavirus has also extended to a Disbelief in God. Long before modern civilization, the Apostle Paul received the prophetic condition of the last days of earth’s history. The progression of the global social and economic decline in 7 months is unparalleled to any other event since biblical times. Disbelief in this reality is a choice but one with devastating consequences.

You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that! 1 Timothy 3:5

The last days are the perfect time to cast aside all Disbelief concerning God. Right now, we desperately need God’s Divine Intervention. He is the only one that has promised to never leave us or forsake us in our time of need. God is love! He extends grace when we least deserve it and gives mercy to protect us from harsh outcomes due to disobedience or unseen danger.

For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God… Titus 2:11-12

Because of sin, it is easy to make decisions that inflict self-harm. Disbelief is a driving force! Many have fallen into Satan’s snare of seeking pleasure, by any means necessary, and have become desensitized to the risks involved in maintaining a thrill-seeking lifestyle. It is always easier to think and act outside of the will of God.

We have received the instructions for living in the last days. God has identified and provided the strategies that we need to walk on the Path of Righteousness in these turbulent times.

There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. Laughter can conceal a heavy heart, but when the laughter ends, the grief remains. Proverbs 14:12-13.

Are you aware that it is possible to live a mistake-free life? When we are faced with making decisions, we do not possess the strength on our own to choose what is right, especially when it doesn’t feel good. We are blessed and highly favored to serve an excellent and ever-faithful God who works wonders when we seek Him.

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. James 1:5.

Always pray for guidance, and ask for wisdom like King Solomon, who placed this gift from God as a priority. It is God who opens our spiritual eyes that we may discern and turn away from the ensnarement of sin.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.… Jeremiah 29:11

God tells us that only He can give gifts that are good and perfect all of the time. Who else can claim to have such power? If you are concerned about how you and your family can live safely, yet have a productive and fulfilling life, then pray and present your challenges to God. His plan will be revealed for you to move forward.

Even before they call, I will answer, and while they are still speaking, I will hear. Isaiah 65:24

Prayer is the key to unleashing the Power of God upon your life. If only we believe that all things are possible with God and through Him, then we can cast aside the Disbelief that The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him—Psalm 24:1.

God will always have complete control of this world. Nothing happens without His knowledge or His permission. Cast aside, your Disbelief and God will show you His miraculous power by blessing you and your family as only He can.

Bible Reading: Psalm 27

God, many are facing the uncertainties of life with Disbelief as a response because they have failed to include you in their lives. We ask for an outpouring of your Holy Spirit upon our lives and for your direction. Please open our eyes and bless us with wisdom and discernment as we prepare for Eternal life. We ask this prayer in the Worthy Name of Jesus. Amen.

Change Depends on You!

Many of us desire change

But we do not want to take the first step for change to occur

We must experience a transformation from within

If we do our part then God will provide a change that ends in victory

He has shown you, O mankind, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8

Where do I Stand?

Yesterday, I participated in an online survey to rate 15 companies, including five airlines. To answer the questions accurately, one would be required to possess in-depth knowledge of their culture, values, target audience, social responsibility, and overall performance. Based on the questions, the objective was to identify consumer knowledge beyond a basic shopping or flying experience.

Following the completion of the first section, something unusual occurred; the next question focused on analyzing the individual completing the survey. Yes, with a deliberate twist, I became the subject of the study. The question: “Which statement do you agree with? Companies operate under the premise that people naturally have good intentions and can be trusted or given the opportunity people always look out for themselves and are not to be trusted?” What was my outlook and where did I stand in valuing others?

“Psychological assessment is a process of testing that uses a combination of techniques to help arrive at some hypotheses about a person and their behavior, personality, and capabilities.” https://psychcentral.com/lib/what-is-psychological-assessment

Laughter was my initial response! With a nursing background in Behavioral Health, I interviewed patients and administered standardized psych tests. I have also been on the opposite side of the spectrum where psychological pre-screening tests were part of the hiring process. So, I felt confident in answering the question that people are basically good and can be trusted.

The survey was presented as a 30-minute survey that evolved into 90 minutes because each question had 6 possible answers with the instructions to choose all that apply. Focusing on the task of identifying the core values of each company was daunting in itself, so, the “how do you feel about people” question presented an element of surprise. The question, skillfully placed to determine the progression or disqualification of the participant from part one to part two of the study probed to reveal the person’s real character. It simply asked, “Where do you stand?”

Thought-provoking situations frequently arise that serve to reveal our morals, values, and our relationship with God. We do not see ourselves as God see’s us. Our mirror differs from God’s spiritual mirror. As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; Romans 3:10. Unless we strive to live a righteous life, just like the participants who did not choose the first part of the analytical question for their answer, we can not move forward in our walk with God. Truthfully, where do we stand? It is the situations that arise from nowhere that challenge and reveal our core beliefs in God.

Our thoughts, actions, and character traits must align with God’s standards given in His Holy Word. We do not have the luxury of delving into the imaginary gray area that exists among unbelievers. Either we stand for good or evil, truth or error, love or hate, and serve God with our whole heart or live for ourselves. For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Hebrews 4:12

The Plan of Salvation is not complex. But, Righteousness by Faith requires walking on a narrow spiritual path. Are we going all the way? Is Eternal life our goal? Then Elijah approached all the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him. But if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people did not answer a word. 1 Kings 18:21

There is no pretense or silence with God. Our very thoughts reveal whether or not we are on God’s side. He is the one who knows our deepest secrets and desires. To prevent our denial, justification or rationalization of living in the gray area of indecision, God tells us, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and mammon. Matthew 6:24.

Where do I stand? Am I now seeking the approval of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10

When we acknowledged and accepted Jesus Christ as the Way, the Truth, and the Life, we agreed that there is only one way to serve God, His way. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8. In our clothing of humanity, we are drawn to options that cause us to fall many times into the pit of Sin, but like David, we can confess, “Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. Psalm 51:4. God readily forgives, and He confirms his love for us: The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. Jeremiah 31:3

It is not our purpose to become presumptuous and take the forgiveness of our sins or God’s loving-kindness for granted. We fall, we repent, and our hearts reach out to grasp the amazing grace and mercies that are extended to all sinners who are saved by grace. It is only through Jesus Christ that we are able to look into the spiritual mirror that will reflect where we truly stand.

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Bible Reading: Psalm 51

God, we thank you for your grace and mercies. We ask you to forgive us for our many sins and to create in us a clean heart. It is our desire to humbly serve and obey you. We ask this prayer in the Worthy Name of your Son, Jesus. Amen.

All is Well!

Every day there is breaking news of the tsunami-like wave of the COVID-19 virus, and the political battles, along with a pending economic depression, and the attempt to repair the great divide based on race, religion, economic and social status. Many countries are fighting internal and external wars with the civil unrest that escalates moment by moment.

Amidst the turbulence we are experiencing; still, it is possible to have complete peace of mind. “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7. Serving God has perks beyond what we can possibly imagine. We are nurtured and protected from the instability of mental and emotional highs and lows. Peace is a gift! It is up to us whether or not we seek God and place ourselves in His hands.

Although I desired the gift of peace, I still felt discontent from within. What additional actions did I need to take to receive complete peace of mind? Striving to build a stronger relationship with God led me to study the Bible, searching for its treasures, and obediently following the spiritual course pre-planned by God for His people. The Word of God provided the reassurance that God is in control and has every intention of taking care of those who are faithful. So why didn’t I possess the peace that the Apostle Paul spoke about in Philippians?

I must admit that my communication with God was minimal and limited to daily ritualistic morning and evening prayers. Deciding to improve my relationship with God required that I reflect on the amount of time I spend worshiping every day. When I calculated the time that I spent in praise and worship, believe me, it was an eye-opening experience. How was it possible that outside of studying the Bible and writing inspirational messages that my prayer time did not even add up to 30 minutes?

Throughout the years, I have heard many reasons for not placing God first by giving Him the time and praise that He is worthy of receiving: “It’s Quality versus Quantity,” “God understands that we have busy lives,” “He knows that we are doing the best we can,” “My job, my family,” etc. None of these reasons are biblically based, nor can we substantiate our lack of commitment to our Heavenly Father, who is full of grace and mercy.

If you are ready for a life-changing experience with God, align yourself with the instructions on praying given by Jesus in Matthew 6. But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. Matthew 6:6.

Today, I decided to obey Jesus’ words and place myself in a quiet room without distractions. At the beginning of my prayer, the usual words left my mouth; but as I tried to speak, my words turned into praises for God as never before. My experience is one that I share because it left me determined to prepare for Eternal life. I was rewarded with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, who has demonstrated to me that when we are obedient and faithful to God, our hearts become in sync with God’s purpose for us.

The Holy Spirit has revealed to me how I must think, speak, and live according to God’s plan of Righteousness by Faith. I have recommitted myself to God and will let Him guide my steps. The powerful blessing that I received is available to everyone that diligently seeks His will. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33. It was only a simple act of obedience that led to a complete transformation, and now I will forever proclaim that with God, “All is Well!”

The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16

Bible Readings: Matthew 6, Acts 2

God, thank you for the promise of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon those who diligently seek you. We are living in terrible times, yet you give us the gift of peace if we desire to receive it. Thank you for loving us and giving us the reassurance that with you, “All is Well!” We ask this prayer in the Worthy Name of Jesus. Amen.

Need Help?

If you are feeling overwhelmed and are unable to move forward, reaching out to God is the only action that promises a favorable outcome. God always takes care of His children despite our circumstances.

We often lose our optimism when rough times come and stay for a while despite our efforts. Have you ever thought, “Well, if God cared then…?” Although God is invisible, the Bible reveals everything that humanity needs to know about God. God is loving and kind; His power, grace, mercies, and patience are visible attributes of His character. He is nurturing and longsuffering, always ready to relieve us of the burdens that we insist on trying to take care of alone.

  1. Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all of the creatures that move along the ground.” Genesis 1:26. From the beginning, God gave us the ability to think, walk upright, have a purpose-driven life, and enjoy the companionship of others.
  2. The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. Jeremiah 31:3. We receive a continuous blessing of grace and mercy every day because of God’s love. We have the free will to embrace our Heavenly Father or walk away and struggle.
  3. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. When we accept God with faith and obedience, He reveals His perfect plan that is designed for each of us according to our needs.
  4. “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33. Jesus forewarned us that we would have many obstacles that involve emotional pain and physical loss. Even so, we are to put our trust in God. He has promised to heal the brokenhearted.
  5. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7. The answer to having peace is to accept our limitations and acknowledge God’s greatness. We were created with the desire to have a spiritual connection with the source of our existence and to seek Him through prayer.

Talking to God is easy. Take a moment to calm down and then speak to God as if He was your best friend. Thank God for the grace and mercies of a new day, and tell Him about your challenges, and ask for help. If you have never prayed before, begin with “The Lord’s Prayer,” found in Matthew 6. As our prayers increase, we become comfortable speaking to God at any time of the day or night. The more we pray, the stronger our faith grows, and we live with the reassurance that “God is always here.”

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Bible Reading: Matthew 6

God, we pray for your Divine Intervention on our lives. We desire to have an up-close and personal relationship with you. We have a lot of stuff going on in our lives that seem impossible to resolve. We thank you for hearing and answering our prayer that we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
